The playwright also employs the use of the flashback technique in his narration to help give his audience a piece of before-hand information which turned out to be very crucial to understanding the thematic preoccupation of the play. The play took place in an indeterminate period of a Yoruba kingdom. Local embellishments such as proverbs, language, dances, drumming, and songs are also employed in making the playwright's adaptation a unique literary entity that stands out in comparison with other adaptations of the original play. The play consists of a prologue, three acts, and ten scenes in total. The artistic framework including the plot preoccupation, style, characters, and setting of the play is particularly rooted in the Yoruba cultural worldview. Ola Rotimi’s The Gods Are Not To Blame is a Greek adaptation of Sophocles' famous Greek classic tragedy Oedipus Rex but a Nigerian background.
